The story

Twenty-two years of service wore this uniform thin at the elbows and knees. When he retired, his family didn't want it packed away in a box — they wanted it somewhere he'd sit every day.

"He spent twenty-two years standing up for other people. Now it's where he finally sits down."

How it was made

The uniform's turnout fabric was assessed for wear and stabilized before being reupholstered into the seat cushion of a bench by the window where he reads now that he's retired. Reflective trim and patches were kept visible in the final piece.
